Beauty matters

7th July, 2015

In a National Park the normal policy presumption against new housing in open countryside needs to be considered alongside the need to conserve and enhance beauty. In some cases, as with this scheme for the redevelopment of a poultry farm, new housing can be justified.

The Inspector concluded:

“Overall the proposal would enhance the natural beauty of the SDNP through the restoration of the topography and the substantial reduction in the extent of the built form…it is a well considered proposal that responds positively to the context and setting of the landscape of the SDNP.”
