This new-build, Georgian style, spacious family home is on an elevated site alongside the River Itchen.
It replaced a dilapidated house built in the 1930s. Attention had to be given to the impact of the new building on the surrounding landscape as it is set in South Downs National Park.
The client wanted an elegant, Georgian cast to the building, rooting it firmly in the Hampshire countryside and period of architecture, so famously associated with Jane Austen. The house is brick with Flemish bond and plain clay tiled roof. Traditional details include handcrafted gauged brick arches and timber, sash windows and doors. Inside, there is a light, airy feel. The drawing room, with a roof lantern, has direct access to the south-facing rear gardens. There are five bedrooms, including a master suite.
