Knights Farm

This rural housing scheme is on a former farm site in the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

It replaces an existing dilapidated farmhouse, associated outbuildings and industrial storage units in Ball Hill, near Newbury, with seven new, high-quality homes.

Designed in the form of a traditional farm courtyard and to reflect the local rural vernacular, the project includes a new principal farmhouse and houses akin to a stable block and threshing barn. The housing mix comprises two five-bedroom, three four-bedroom and two three-bedroom dwellings.

When approving development on this sensitive site in the countryside, the local planning authority said it represented a “noticeable visual enhancement” of this part of the AONB by removing unattractive buildings and replacing them with high-quality structures that responded to the rural setting.

Planning Consent was obtained in two stages and Pro Vision provided architecture, planning and ecology services for the client.
