Yew Tree Crate was the development of a new agricultural worker’s dwelling in the countryside. The site was located near the village of Wonston. The existing farm comprised 308 hectares of land and the dwelling was essential for animal husbandry, security and bio security reasons and the smooth running of the farm.
The dwelling drew influence from the surrounding rural vernacular in its use of brick, flint and clay tiles. Visual impact was a concern and so the dwelling and was kept as low as possible to reduce negative impact. A biomass boiler and independent water supply meant the building could operate sustainably and be largely off-grid.
We worked closely with the clients from the outset from inception through to successful completion on site, bringing together our expertise in town planning and architecture.
